Limb Spare Surgery

Limb Spare Surgery: Bone tumors often develop in our senior pets. Historically this has been treated with amputation of the entire limb to prevent fracture and mitigate on-going pain/soreness to improve the quality of life of the pet. Recently, procedures have been developed called Limb Spare whereby the effected bone tissue is removed and replaced by a cortical graft and a plate to support the site. Pre-operative planning involves x-rays, a CT scan, and construction of the graft to be used. Patient recovery time is typically 8 weeks with pets returning to full function and pain free.
