Protecting Your Pet With Proper Vaccinations

Animal Medical & Surgical Center provides vaccination services for dogs and cats of all ages. Pet vaccinations are a simple, safe, and effective method to safeguard your pet’s health.

Not all veterinary diseases affect both dogs and cats. During your pet’s wellness exam, we will discuss your pet’s lifestyle and assess their disease exposure risk. We follow the American Animal Hospital Association vaccination guidelines, and customize an appropriate vaccine regimen for your pet.

Certain core vaccinations are required by law, but additional vaccinations are available to provide comprehensive protection, and should be considered based on your pet’s age and lifestyle.

Adult Canine Vaccinations

To ensure your pet receives the maximum protection from their vaccinations, we recommend an annual review of their vaccinations and administer boosters when necessary. Core vaccines for dogs include:

  • Rabies
  • Distemper
  • Parvovirus
  • Hepatitis
  • Bordetella (kennel cough)
  • Parainfluenza

Adult Feline Vaccinations

Feline core vaccinations offer protection against harmful and potentially deadly disease. The core vaccinations are recommended for both indoor and outdoor cats, and include the following:

  • Rabies
  • Panleukopenia (distemper)
  • Feline leukemia virus (FeLV)
  • Caliciviris
  • Rhinotracheitis virus
  • Chlamydia

There are additional canine vaccines available, and these would be recommended based on your dog’s age and lifestyle. One example would be rattlesnake venom.

Puppy and Kitten Vaccinations

Young puppies and kittens receive protective antibodies from their mothers while they are nursing. However, this protection is temporary. We recommend your new puppy or kitten begin their protective vaccination schedule at approximately 6 weeks old. Vaccination protocols for puppies and kittens require a series of vaccinations and boosters over several visits.
